Hello I’m Good News Corps
oversea volunteer 12th class Uganda Park Hye Bin. As I said before, I’ve
planned to visit Uganda again. I really came back!!!!
Low sky, wind blowing
gently, tickling earthy smell. All those things make me
feel like I’m in 2013. However, 3 years aren’t such
short time.
Dust stirred up on the road
had been changed to an asphalt road and solar heat light had been built. All
scenery which doesn’t seem like to change begun to put on new clothes little by
little.
It’s been a week since I
came here! Now I’m advertising with 16th volunteers. We are introducing National
Mind Education Camp starting from 29th July, MEUT and IYF internship as well. Seeing
junior volunteer members reminds me of old memory vividly.
Makerere IYF club(MUKIYFA)
Today is Saturday. it’s the
day to have IYF club activity in each university(Makerere, Kyambogo,
International university). The sun is pouring down in morning without regard
of sound of rain falling down heavily.
How can’t I go out? So I follow 16th members to see how they’re
going on with program with local students
This Makerere university is the best university
in Uganda. And there is MUKIYFA(Makerere University International Youth
Fellowship) club made by IYF members in the university.
Today we’re going ahead with academy and mind lecture prepared by
volunteers.

students were there. We had a time for dancing together to warm up. Local students
started to dance to music. Awkward atmosphere became soft with exciting music.
We had a time to greet one another in turn starting from Maggy’s
welcoming greet. There had been new students. Even there were students who came
from other university. We had a time to listen to impression of the students
who attended last week for those who’re new here.
They said that it was good time to learn mind set they’ve never
learned before and to do academy such as
TaeKwonDo, Dance, Various languages.

Those
students who got to know importance of mind lecture have had expectation of the
lecture.
IYF
Academy
Before
lecture, local students had have academy time with volunteers. They were able
to select one of academies such as taekwondo, Korean, French, Thai. French and Korean academies were popular.
There were also students who wanted to learn Thai. it’s not common opportunity
to learn from native speakers. I could tell by their expression and looking
students concentrating that they really have passion to learn.

The students with lots of
energy had gathered to learn Tae Kwon Do and dance.
Though there was not very good at dancing, students learning Tae
Kwon Do was serious and others learning dance was always laughing.

Mind
Lecture
After
funny academy time, we had gathered for mind lecture. We had have a little
special time with country director. The very thingis my
mind lecture!!
Before coming here, country
director had given me a special order that you should prepare mind lecture.Actually
there were difficulties to prepare it in English which I have not spoken in
commonly!! Though I had not prepared well, I overcame the burden with
challenging mind of IYF. I was going on and on with my lecture after relaxing
my nervous mind. I had talked about what is self-control using a metaphor with
cars and how important the self-control is to live our life we want. In fact,
my lectures were not good. But it was thankful time for me to be able to try
giving lecture in Uganda. Actually I had promised that I will prepare lecture
properly next time if there is another opportunity. I was thankful for students
who listen to me closely

After that, mind lecture of country director started. Today’s
title of lecture is ‘desire’
He had explained the reason south korea could be developed and the
reason why south korea couldn’t help becoming first in commiting suicide rank. Our
parents’ generation didn’t want to hand down the poverty and lots of youth’s
desire was getting much higher day by day. In result, they had given up easily
against even small difficulty. And they ended up falling down as well if they
couldn’t satisfy their desire which is much higher than their situation. What
we really need here is strong mind set. This strong mind is made when you face
difficult problems and challenge against them.There are a lot of mind
lecturers. But why country director Kim Hyeong Jin is the best lecturer is that
we can say that because of localized lectures. He had explained our desire in
funny way. That’s why the lecture which could be boring was able to be more
funny!
Desire’s
getting higher continuously. But we’re not happy. The important matter is that
the desire is bigger than our capability. If we have mind which can control
ourselves, we can be happy.
He ended his lecture promising that he
will teach them how to gain self-control which can control our desire next
time..
While I’m here, I saw the volunteers working
much harder than I had done before. I felt envy of them and proud of them. I
was very proud of our branch office in Uganda which is getting bigger. I was so
thankful and excited in every moment. Sometimes, I still take a look around to
see if I’m really in Uganda.
I hope I spent the rest of time enjoy.
In this year, Naional Mind
Education Camp is going to be big scale. I want senior volunteers to take
opportunity to step on the ground of longing Uganda through this camp.
